Vampire Power

Welcome to VampirePower.org, a community dedicated to the power consumed by electronic devices when they are "off". You may ask yourself, "Self, why would consumer electronic companies design products with 'off' buttons that do not stop the device from using power?"

In general, it comes down to cost, it is generally cheaper to build products this way, and most consumer aren't aware of the power draw. As a result, there is no reason for these companies to be better environmental citizens. The result of this situation is bad. As consumer electronic companies ingeniously develop more useful consumer electronics, and consumers adopt more electronic products, more vampire power is consumed, resulting in more pollution and consumer cost, for little or no appreciable consumer benefit. The founders of this website were not aware of phantom power draw until our friends helped us learn about it. There is a lot of informaiton on the web about the Vampire Power, and through this site we are attempting to bring this information together in a consumable form, so that it will be easier for more people to learn about and address the problem of Vampire Power.
